Anywho, whilst yesterday was far from the most entertaining of games, we looked comfortable for the most part throughout the afternoon. JJ Hooper and Harrison Clark looked decent, with Hooper taking his goal well.

The retained players all looked canny as well. Jordan Hickey hit a trademark pre-season 25 yarder, and played well throughout the day. Despite being 48 years old and fresh off his honeymoon, Lids was rapid and caused Shields a few issues.

Shaw played most of the game at CB and looked solid alongside Finn, who was sublime as ever. Rio came on in the second half and looked class, more of him please. No Evans (thankfully) as he was at the F1, no sign of Macca either.

As for trialists, I canโ€™t say anyone stood out as an immediate โ€˜must signโ€™ sort of player. Jake Cunningham whoโ€™s former Ashington and just back from a scholarship in the USA was playing on the right wing and looked okay. Former U19โ€™s Evan Fogarty and Alfie Livermore also featured.

Had a lad called David Allasan play up top in the second half, and he was okay but didnโ€™t shine. Former NUFC and North Shields keeper Olly Marshall played in the second half, but heโ€™s back off to the US so heโ€™s just training with us seemingly. Rest of the trialists weโ€™re all younger lads, who obviously Iโ€™ve ne idea they are.

Anyway, onto Tuesday night! Hopefully see a bit more of the lads weโ€™ve got on trial. Will post a preview/fan info thing on Monday night at some point,
